Training

Launch of an Anglo-French Training and Education Providers Network for offshore wind sector in the Channel.

Having an effective training infrastructure – having the right people in the right place at the right time with the right skills is crucial to the Marine Renewable Energy industry and there will continue to be people moving into the offshore wind industry and also workers already in this sector including its supply-chain, who will need to build new or additional skills and certifications.

We are consulting training and education providers on setting up an Anglo-French Training and Education Network to support the MRE sector in the Channel area where there is likely be a flow of labour.

We want to ask you, the training and education providers, if you think this would be of value, and what you would want from such a network.

The benefits would depend on what the members might wish to articulate as their priorities which we could start to talk through at this launch event. We think some obvious benefits could include discussions, collaborations and mutual support as follows:

•    Issues about training standards;
•    Merits of having whole-industry standards
•    Existing and future regulatory context
•    Continuous professional development
•    Exchanges of professional staff
•    Exchanges of students or placements/internships
•    Health and safety issues facing the industry in France and the UK

We may incorporate exchange opportunities through the EU Erasmus Programme. www.erasmusplus.org.uk in the UK and in France www.2e2f.fr/page/erasmus-plus-education-et-formation.

During the exciting Thetis Marine Renewable Energy Conference on 9th April 2014 in Cherbourg,   we are inviting French and UK MRE industry training and education providers to a meeting to discuss how common training issues could be shared for the MRE sector.

Arrangements:
The event is held as follows:
14:00 – 17:00 Chambre d’Economie, Cherbourg

English-French and French-English translation will be in place for the workshop, funded by the BEEMS project so that both French and English training providers can converse.
